THE DOs & DON'Ts

How to get the best from your colored mulch purchase.

INSTALLATION:    The most common mistake customers make when it comes to colored mulch is improper installation times.   What do we mean by that?   All colored mulch should be installed when there is ample time for the product to set up and dry.   Drying time depends on the weather.   If it’s hot and sunny, it may take an hour or so?   If it’s overcast, it may take 12 hours or more?   The worst thing that a customer can do is install colored mulch right before or during inclement weather.   Your chances of “wash off” increase dramatically.

So, what do we mean by “WASH OFF”?    Not to get real technical here, but colored mulch is made with an environmentally friendly dye.   When it is manufactured, there is a regulated amount of dye applied per yard to get the best color and wear resistance for the season.   The product never completely dries in our manufactured piles.   The key to it all is when it gets applied at the consumer end and has had a chance to set up and dry.   Like anything wet (let’s use fresh paint on the side of your house as an example), if a certain amount of water and pressure are applied, the paint will usually wash off easier.   However, if that paint is allowed to dry, water will have very little effect on it, right?

SO, ASK YOURSELF

“WOULD I PAINT MY HOUSE TODAY?”

No?   Then, you may want to plan another day for your colored mulch install.

“Wash off” amounts will vary, depending upon the timing factors of weather mentioned above, as well as the strength and quality of the dye applied.   Needless to say, we don’t cut corners like some of our competitors.  We only use the best dyes in the industry.  By the way, customers with irrigation systems might want to delay watering for a day.   The look of your mulch after “wash off” will vary, as well.  Most customers who experience wash off, due to improper installation times, only notice a slight difference in the look of their product.

Rest assured, ‘s colored mulch is a GREAT product.   The color will last much longer than traditional mulches when applied correctly.
